Who we are

Our café was born from a simple but powerful idea: everyone deserves a space where they feel safe and welcome. Operated by Essex Recovery Foundation, a local charity working to build a strong and visible recovery community.

For many people in recovery, everyday social spaces can be challenging and can often make people feel excluded or at risk. That’s why sober spaces are so important. They offer a chance to relax, connect and be part of a community without the pressure or presence of substances.

But Cornerstone isn’t only for people in recovery: It’s a café for everyone. Whether you're supporting a loved one, looking to learn more about recovery, or just want a friendly place to grab a coffee, you’re welcome here. By creating a shared space that’s inclusive and supportive, we hope to break down stigma and build bridges between all parts of our community.

At Cornerstone, we host regular events, creative workshops, and conversation groups designed to inspire connection and hope. We’re here to remind people that recovery isn’t just possible - it can be joyful, meaningful and full of life.

We’re proud to be part of the wider mission of the Essex Recovery Foundation who are building a future where recovery is visible, valued and supported across Essex.
